Biogas valorisation refers to upgrading raw biogas produced from waste or manure into higher-value products. This can include refining it into biomethane (renewable natural gas) for use in transport or injection into gas grids, or transforming its main components – methane and 𝐢𝑂2 – into value-added chemicals such as biodegradable plastics or ectoine. By going beyond simple heat and power generation, biogas valorisation maximizes both economic and environmental returns through physical purification, chemical conversion, or biological processes. These technologies remove impurities and separate or convert gases, enabling bio-waste to be transformed into sustainable fuels and materials while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.
