Biogas Valorisation in Municipal WWTP through Engine – Case Study
This case study illustrates the energetic valorisation of biogas within a municipal wastewater treatment plant by using specialised engines to convert waste into electrical and thermal energy. These engines outperform traditional power plants by providing a higher yield and superior power quality while simultaneously allowing for efficient heat recovery. Financially, the implementation is highly attractive, as a single engine can generate €250,000 in annual savings through combined power and heat production. Consequently, the substantial initial investment of €450,000 is recovered rapidly, achieving a total payback period of just 2.3 years.
